Love V’s expressions in the bottom half of the page. Also, love “awful sauce!” I think this needs to become a commonly-used phrase to match “awesome sauce.” LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN.
I’m a little confused as to what the point of this table is, if the only food it produces has no nutritional value. The Crestfallen coven didn’t often entertain guests (who they might want to impress with The Magicks just for show), did they? Was it just for the creator to show off his casting prowess to the rest of the coven? Or could they do ectoplasm differently somehow so that it would be actual nutritious food?
(Do witches need to eat? I guess Sera has been subsisting on coffee, energy drinks and gummi bears for as long as we’ve known her… V does say “you’ll all need a proper meal later”, not “we’ll all.” Is that only the non-witches she’s referring to?)
It’s probably for other Witches to entertain themself. As I gather all conjured food taste as “good” as the real thing. Just doesn’t help anything at all. So Witches would probably just use to eat something just for the taste. (And show of.) Makes sense since otherwise Witches would be an unlimited source of resources. As I see it Ectoplasma seems to be able to take shape of anything but will often never be quite as good as the real thing. Depending on how good the Witch actually is at conjuring.
And I think Sera and V needs to eat as anyone else. They feel hunger at least. (Sera nags about it constantly.) But they probably survive longer than any other mere human.
What you point out about resources does make sense. Serenity’s world would be a LOT different from ours if every single witch was effectively Doc Manhattan, able to reconfigure actual matter in any way.
I don’t remember Sera talking about being hungry – when was that? I’m not married to my witches-don’t-need-food idea, but I can’t recall it being specifically disproven anywhere. Have I forgotten something?
I can’t help chuckle when I see Tess grin at panel 2. She looks so evil, like she has hidden an enitre naval mine in V’s plate.
(By the way, I’m having a lot of virus varnings when I try visit the forum on my macbook. But it doesn’t seem to appear on other computers. Reading the comic is fine though.)
In ‘Vicious Wispers’, V says that they use ancient ectoplasm from a long-gone witch civilisation instead of petrol. (this might be ‘The Greatest Feat of All’?) If so, then that ectoplasm has lasted for thousands of years. If the magic of Crestfallen will only last a few hundred years, and V’s magic will only extend for a year after her death, does this mean that something is happening to the magic of their world?
I know it said in the last book that there would always be the same number of witches in the world, but is that really the case? It feels like there were a LOT more in the past, and that they were significantly more powerfull…
So the “food” has no nutritional value? Does it dissolve inside you or is pooping required to get it out?
It’s “ersatz” right? (A PK Dick word!) It’s almost as good as the “real thing” but… not quite.
And even if it wriggles and squirms it’s not “really alive” right?
One could have quite the Roman Orgy, I think Tess would be game for that!
Vicious doesn’t look like she’s enjoying the meal in panel 4…
i think shes looking at it in amazement

“The greatest feat of all..” Could it be.. pacing these pages so I have to agonize over what happens next for a week??
Yep! Marvel at the World’s Greatest Feat of Frustration!
Not frustration! Delayed gratification! (And sorry, but George R R Martin’s got you beat.)
