And to think it was only two books ago she wrote her first autograph ever. Now look at her, she allow people to gather around her, and adequately manage to pretend she don’t mind at all give a not. Sera is all grown up.
I am seriously impressed with how well she is handling it. In the beginning she would have collapsed into a quivery ball of panic. She is making amazing progress.
THE TOURIST MONKEYS ARE HERE.
‘look how she holds the pen’ – that was in the first book, right?
And I like the little inserts of different languages. I’m not entirely sure what language the one that isn’t written in the Latin alphabet is, but I’d like to know what it says!
Ah, no it is Korean. Thanks! I’m really bad with eastern languages, sorry. More of an ancient western language gal myself. I do see the Japanese though, now that you mention it… I still wonder what they say.
The price of celebrity: sometimes being famous has it’s drawbacks.
I hold pens funny too (only met one person who does it exactly like me!) but no THAT funny!
Maddy’s holding some big’ol keys there! I thought they were popping over to a bar?
I pick it up between the pointer & middle finger, at the first joint. Then I cram the top (barrel?) of the pen between my thumb and pointer, where the webbing is. Finally I use my thumb to press down, the pad of the thumb on the ring finger’s middle joint. The 3 fingers are pressed against my palm, the pointer’s just kind of resting on the pen. I write with my elbow moving as much as my wrist – I don’t think my handwriting’s improved since 2nd grade!
idk if it’s actually “weird” or not, but several people (and teachers) over the decades have said so… I’ve got nothing on Sera though! THAT is a weird way to hold a pen!
Well, the link worked before. Things like this are why people don’t use Myspace anymore.
I have seen a few people hold a pen pretty much like you do 5cats. As long as your handwriting’s legible, that’s what counts. And I still can’t tell exactly how Sera holds a pen. A detailed closeup would be nice.
A better discription of how I hold a pen is it rests on the first joint of my ring finger. The pad of my middle finger holds the tip of the pen just in front of where it rests on my ring finger, and my pointer finger holds the pen just behind that – it’s first joint actually bends backward a little. You don’t see it because my thumb clamps down over the first two bones of my pointer finger and the side of my thumb presses against the middle bone of my pointer finger, not touching my middle finger at all. I hold the barel of the pen between the top edge of the bottom joint of my thumb and the tip of my pointer finger, and further up it sits on the base joint of my pointer finger. That pen isn’t going ANYWHERE ‘cept where I want it!
She’s come such a long way with her social anxiety, like before she couldn’t even enter a night club without having a panic attack! It’s really great to see her become more comfortable with herself
I know what you mean. The situation seems odd. I think it could go either way.
To me it seems Maddy’s probably speaking with the owner or a manager to get keys to a private room. Which given Sera’s celebrity is their best bet for anything resembling privacy. If it was some nefarious plot, wouldn’t Maddy have the keys ready to go? And it wouldn’t make sense to walk in the front door where 100 people saw them if something truly horrible where in the works.
Then again, she knows Sera’s shy and awkward and stuff, so why hasn’t Maddy told Sera what she’s doing, and why would they need keys to a private room? I mean, how would Maddy get her drinks if they lock themselves in?
I have a theory that Maddy is setting Sera up. The โyouโre almost humanโ comment slipped out as she is starting to rethink her part in whatever scheme is going down. She was okay with going after Sera when she thought all witches were the same, but talking to Sera is punching holes in that blanket judgment. Not enough to stop her from leading Sera into the trap, though. Not yet at least.
Super-Effective use of colour, again! 4 little blobs of blue to show exactly where our hero is!
I wonder (being new here) if Aaron planned that from the beginning or if it’s a ‘happy accident’? Perhaps it evolved from his earlier works? Anyhow, I like it!
yup. he’s been using splashes of color since WTTN (vol 1)— blue for sera, red for tess, pink for vicious, yellow for stilletto, and green for spooky ectoplasmatic stuff.
The first two issues of WTTN had color, way back when they were webcomic-only in 2002. I might go back and recolor them (along with the rest of Vol. 1) if I do a big “omnibus” edition down the line.
Oh ho! Yes, now you HAVE to do that. It’s all over the internet. ๐
Would be pretty cool though with some sort extra special edition of the books with hardcovers and stuff. Even if I know that that is pretty damn expensive to get made.
If that does end up happening, could you please be a dear and include those adorable rants at the end of each print issue from the first volume? I stupidly gave all my original copies to what became an un-greatfull ex, and I fear that I’ll never have a chance to see them again…

She was okay with going after Sera when she thought all witches were the same, but talking to Sera is punching holes in that blanket judgment. Not enough to stop her from leading Sera into the trap, though. Not yet at least.
The trap thing would make sense, I’ve been suspecting something along the lines for the last few pages. The whole ‘Bus Incident’ would have been traumatic enough to set anyone off for the rest of their life regarding witches… I wonder if Aaron reads these comment and thinks to himself ‘Wow, they really nailed that one’, or ‘Ha ha ha, these suckers think they know whats going on? Just WAIT till next week!’
I’ve been reading TOO MUCH manga: I viewed the bottom 3 panels from right to left – then wondered why it seemed so weird. (left to right it makes 100% more sense – oy!)
I’ve been reading too much Hentai too: “It’s a trap!” has a whoooole different meaning…
Unless I badly misread, the “bus incident” happened after Maddy had disembarked. Possibly she was all shocky-shocked in an “onlooker” way, but she really didn’t have the opportunity to be traumatized by it.
I probably mis-read it, I thought that people’s tormenting of Maddy directly resulted in the bus getting tossed about. I s’pose I need to pick up Vol. 1 again and brush up…
Maddy was not on the bus when the incident occurred. You see a view out the window looking at her as it pulls away. I thought the incident was a reaction to Maddy’s rather angry and forceful rejection of her, i.e. “You never do anything!”
Oh yeah, “the Maddy incident” (particularly the “You never do anything!” remark) was definitely a major contributor to “The Bus Incident.” That’s the thing though – Maddy yelled at Sera *after* getting off the bus. So Maddy wasn’t *on* the bus, that’s all.
I was thinking when I read this that Tess isn’t around now…
If there IS something fishy going on, Tess (and Kelton!) is the kind of ‘back-up’ Sera really needs!
You think Tess & Kelton are off making kissing noises together? Hummm…
I don;t see a Kelton-Tess pairing. Kelton is still kinda of smitten with Sera, I think, and Tess would break him. I’m pretty sure Tess would require someone far less sweet in order to get kissy with them.
“Tess would break him.” ….oh, for the want of a “like” button here.
true, Tess would probably break him, but…of all the soles we’ve encountered in crestfallen, kelton’s is the most (insert Captain Kirk here) human. meaning, he doesn’t put on airs, nor does he act like a poser. oh, and he weeps. always the weeping….okay, that part may not fit a Tess-centric man. but the rest has a shot.
The “Kids in the Hall” skit: “My Pen!” springs to mind here @Robb!
‘Souls’ *cough* Unless we’re talking foot fetishes…
I think Tess would TOTALLY melt if a guy actually wept FOR her! (not, you know, because she had him in a hammer-lock…) If she actually broke Kelton’s Stupid Heart? She’d do ANYTHING to fix it… :sexxytimes:
(See what I did there? I’m so very proud of it!)
It would certainly make an… interesting pairing. In order for it to work, Tess might actually have to admit to being human and having emotions other than RAGE!! and I could see that being quite difficult for her. She would certainly never do so publicly and would smash Kelton should he inadvertently reveal her human side to others. On the plus(?) side, he seems like he would put up with a lot of abuse. Maybe what Tess secretly wants is some soft emotional kissy time, though I somehow imagine her idea of romance involves violence and aggression, much like every other idea she has.
Anger and aggression are Tess’ strong suits, do keep in mind she loved Th’ Gumdrop Gang, Hugs, the Vicious Whisper concert, and ecto-food! She even giggled after the concert. So she’s capable of happy-fuzzy emotions.
Maybe she just needs a safe place to express her anger and aggression, like this noise opera she’s working on with Sera and the local spooky band The Grinding Organs. Or a job in a wrecking yard.
So? I’m not the only one who imagines Kelton and Tess sitting in a tree…
K…I…S…S… OUCH~ (lolz!)
Kelton’s got backbone! He’s a nice guy, and we nice guys always finish last! Oh wait…
Tess is a nice girl! She’s just… insecure! Someone like Kelton can really take a beating and… oh drat…
Really: Kelton’s hot for Sera, Tess is hot for Sera, since neither can HAVE Sera (in that sexxy-times way) it’s only natural they “find each other” eh? Yes, IN that sexxy-times way!
Teh hormones? They scream! The bio-clock? It ticks!
“look how she holds the pen”
“I SO want her hair!”
BEGIN THE SCALPING
And to think it was only two books ago she wrote her first autograph ever. Now look at her, she allow people to gather around her, and adequately manage to pretend she don’t mind at all give a not. Sera is all grown up.

By the way do I say I like the current page often enough? Cause I really like this page! ๐

Maddy’s holding some big’ol keys there! I thought they were popping over to a bar?
She didn’t say a bar. She just said “get a drink” and “a few doors down”. Perhaps they are going back to whatever room in which Maddy is staying.
So how do you hold a pen?
I hold it ‘funny’ too, resting on my ring finger and using my middle & pointer fingers, and thumb to hold it down. Posted a picture here: . Dang, I’ve never used that exact code before, lets see if it works.
I can’t quite tell from the drawings how exactly Sera holds a pen. I have noticed that a lot of artistic types hold a pen differently.
And of COURSE the code didn’t work right! *chuckle* At least it still links to the right page.
I pick it up between the pointer & middle finger, at the first joint. Then I cram the top (barrel?) of the pen between my thumb and pointer, where the webbing is. http://www.heartshapedskull.com/2003/11/15/working-through-the-negativity-page-041/ Bottom left there.
Much obliged! I’d forgotten about that example.
Do you hold a pen differently too, or is it just Sera, 5cats, and I? If I’m not being too bold, of course.
Apparently @Quoth too (It’s in a comment at the link) ๐
“legible”? Well, mostly it is. I’ll never win a “Penmanship” award though! (or a spelling bee…)
Me neither, on both counts. I’d discribe my regular handwriting as very legible chicken scratches, but I’m fast!
Except my spooky comic style. That might have a chance at winning something, even if it’s just a friend saying ‘Hey, neat Christmas cards.’
Nah, I hold my pencil like a boring old normal. When I hold a pencil in my hand at all, that is. Mostly I draw by cramming pens in my pupils.
(^.^) so that TV person interviewing Vee in WTTN, chapter 2 was based on real life, *despite* the comment saying it never happened! hu!
She’s come such a long way with her social anxiety, like before she couldn’t even enter a night club without having a panic attack! It’s really great to see her become more comfortable with herself
haha all of those people ogling her….”hey sexy!!!”
nope. still don’t trust maddy. the “look how she holds her pen!” panel….who is maddy talking to?
I hear you. There is something real sinister about his smilie. ๐
I know what you mean. The situation seems odd. I think it could go either way.

Actually no, the color bits in WTTN were added retroactively. It was a big ol’ splash of awesome newness with Volume 2.
The first two issues of WTTN had color, way back when they were webcomic-only in 2002. I might go back and recolor them (along with the rest of Vol. 1) if I do a big “omnibus” edition down the line.

I would definitely buy super special edition versions of the books. Hardcover with extra bonus features. Gah! Now you have my hopes up!
If that does end up happening, could you please be a dear and include those adorable rants at the end of each print issue from the first volume? I stupidly gave all my original copies to what became an un-greatfull ex, and I fear that I’ll never have a chance to see them again…
This is why I love Crestfallen. In the real world you’d be looked at as a freak for being a witch but Crestfallen, Sera is mother f**kin’ star.
It’s the Disneyland of Spooky Stuff. I kind of wish it was a real place, I would actually overcome my intense hatred of travel in order to go there.
Ha ha, I love Sera’s awkward smile in the last panel. ^_^
i know. it’s such a cheese… (^.^)

vicious: wants sera to embrace her witchi-ness.
maddy: wants sera to embrace her humanity.
tess: wants sera to be sera. or a gaudy, rinestone-encrusted, gauntlet to wear on her left arm. depends on her mood.
