They are very good at lurking. And, on closer inspection, they seem to know where the skulls are buried…
I also looked up the name of the place. It seems to be French, the feminine for ‘the fall/plunge/drop.’ I might be wrong since I didn’t find an *exact* translation on my Google search. The place has a waterfall which kinda suits the name, but the French word for ‘waterfall’ is ‘cascade,’ so it doesn’t quite fit. So there might be a double meaning here.
HA!!! to all of you people on the last page you were like “whose that guy Maddy is talking to…i bet they are up to no good!!!!” i just kept thinking to myself “He’s probably the door man to the place they are going to or a bar tender or something….” HAHA i am vindicated…ummm not that it means anything…
whow, this is beginning to look like E. A. Poe’s The Cask of Amontillado. Hopefully not, hopefully Maddy is just going to get blitzed and maybe try to get Sera a little over the edge…..
I’m still on the fence if this is a trap, but I’m leaning away from that idea more and more. I DO think that whatever heartbreak this volume is named after is going to happen in this Poe-esque wine cellar. All the more reason to gnaw on a strap in anticipation of next Tuesday!
To be fair, Maddy’s parents were (are?) ecto-marine biologists, so it is not unreasonable she would have some esoteric knowledge. She was also something of an outcast and she has an interest in magical subjects/history, so it also stands to reason she would investigate the town’s history.
That being said, rarely does the protagonist being taken into a mysterious cellar lead to a positive outcome.
Also, this bartender sounds like he was a douche in high school.
Who is this Rozz? Has she been mentioned before or was she the bartender’s gf?
Yeah, her name’s come up. Ross D’Amico was a friend of Maddy’s that went to Sera’s church. Maddy mentioned her in the coffe shop. “Rozz was… wow. My parents thought she was such a bad influence on me, that naughty Catholic girl.”
Made Sera blush! 😉
I think I knew a naughty Catholic girl. Anyway, she seemed kinda Catholic. And she was fun, platonically.
Breaking into places? Stealing stuff? Underage drinking? (sounds like it to me!) Maddy was a naughty little girl!
All this happened after the “bus thing” right? So she came out of her shell and turned into a “wild child”? lolz!
It’s really interesting getting to see the difference between how Sera views or remembers someone, and how they really are in person. From the few memories Sera has revealed of her, I never would have guess Maddie would be the kind of person she is here. She’s much more open and opinionated then I would have guessed, and it seems she wasn’t quite as much of the quite loner as Sera had thought. I know a lot of the differences in her, are likely from growing up. (Sera is certainly a lot different from how she seemed to be as a child. She’s even grown a lot over just the few books.) And from what I understand, she and Maddie weren’t really close as children, so it’s understandable that Sera wouldn’t have known about this side of her child hood she’s talking about here. Still, it’s interesting.
Given Maddy’s laughter, I think this has been her turn to be nervous. I don’t think she expected to have them draw nearly so many, um, fans.
And I like the goblins living under the floor boards. Nice touch.
Goblins always know the best lurking spots.

Is one of them chewing on a skull?
“La chute” can be used to describe a waterfall. There is a town in Quebec named Lachute and the name was originally associated with the waterfall.
Chewing or carrying it or something. When I look closely I can see a regular scull and what looks like a cyclops scull to the left of the waterfall.
I do agree with you. I’m also sensing a bit of a double entendre. Our host is a tricksie Hobbitses*
*I don’t think Aaron is a Hobbit.
Rozz sounds like fun. Also, coolest wine cellar of all time.

*sniff* … Is that Valentine I smell?
Run, Sera, run!
His scent is slightly whisping through the air…
I want Seras backpack.
(It’s a trap….)
I agree, that is one amazing backpack.
(and it’s a trap)
Yes, great backpack.

Maddy knows much…too much….
My alarms are still going off. Every page just reinforces my feelings of anxiety. Careful Sera!

Okay, I remember that conversation, now. I just didn’t remember the name. Cool.

I love the way the characters move from the top of the staircase to the floor in a single panel.
I like it too. That’s a nice way to tell a graphic story.
